video driver help!!!?

Q: okay so i had to have my computer wiped clean a couple months ago. i was trying to play a computer game and it wouldnt work but it worked before my computer was wiped clean. so i was searching everything to figure out why it wasnt working then i came to a conclusion it was my video driver. i went to dell to download drivers but when i install it it just closes out and does nothing. i tried downloading ati driver but it just closes out. i tried n-vidia driver but it says "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware". i have dont know what to do i just want to play a computer game. can someone please help me! i have a dell dimension E520 is that what you were asking? i'm not really sure which one to download. i have windows xp media center edition. i'm trying to play the sims 2. it worked before i had to wipe my computer clean but now it doesnt. okay so installed the intel driver i think it worked the only thing is everything is different like it looks like how laptops look. im probably not making sense. but before like my icons on my desktop were bigger now everything looks like laptop settings. thank you very very much i appreciate it!! =]

A: For a start you will need to delete both the NVIDIA & ATI Drivers they will be clashing with eachother & causing a whole host of problems as they are not compatable. Once you do that look up the make and model of your pc on the Dell website, it should have all the specs on your pc including your graphics chipset. Take note of the chipsets name & either google the drivers for it or go directly to the manufacturers website & install their own drivers. Windows update may also have the correct drivers for your system too so you could also give them a try. (There is an icon for it in your start menu!) By the way, what game were you trying to play? If your pc has the standard intel graphics chipset (which is what I suspect) then it will not be able to play any modern game that uses directx 9 or 10. If your pc has that chipset then perhaps the only option for you would be to upgrade to a proper graphics card (NVIDIA 7600 or above would be good) then you might be able to play your game... Go onto the dell website & download the intel drivers for your pc. They should be the ones that work. But before you install them make sure you have deleted both the ATI & NVIDIA Drivers! (hint use add & remove software in your control panel!) Right click on your screen (not on any programs) you should get a list and one of those should be properties. Click on properties & it should bring up your display, you should have a lot of tabs up the top, click on the one that says something like "display settings". You should now be able to adjust the screen resolution to what you prefer.
