Is this a scam ?

Q: I got this when I posted that I deal with installing POS ( point of sale systems ) on computers at craiglist.com : Hello, How you doing? My name is J Phillip,am from from Florida and right now i work in Washington I read your description and am interested in your services,I just brought some computers and they are laptops Pentium 8 dell computer..i want you to Install software such as Microsoft Office and Anti virus, clean inner & outer computer components,update software to current status,i have a shipper that will bring them to you and also bring them back when its done he will also come to you with the software and anti virus needed Get back to me with your total cost for the services of eight computer only cos all the software and anti-virus and windows will come with the pcs.i will like You to know that my mode of payment is by check or Money order. I await your urgent response so that i can put the arrangement in order. Thank. Mr J phillip I asked for his number. What if I asked him if I can only accept cash or credit card payment?

A: There is no way to tell if it is a scam or not. I can say that since you posted an ad on craigslist, and this is a pretty customized response, that it is most likely not a scam. As long as you treat it like a normal business transaction, and require that either the check clear or that the money order clears before returning the machines, you should be in the clear. His english is a little, halted. But that does not mean it is a scam, he could just be from another country. Keep in mind, he said "pentium 8 dell computer" which if you read later he says he has "eight" computers for you to work on. He is not claiming that the PC's are Pentium 8's, he just has bad english.
