Q: I posted a question about a computer, i think i may have touched some of the components, and a person answered the following : ".........you may have touched the motherboard or processor and discharged static electricity - ruining the components" What does he mean with this, does this mean that i wont be able to use those components anymore? A: If you get inside the case, look for the cmos battery, it's about the size of a quarter and it's silver. Around that area, there is a jumper that would be on pins 1 and 2, move it to 2 and 3, turn the computer on, nothing should come on the screen, shut down, move the jumper back to one and 2, that will clear your cmos settings and password so that you can change it to boot from cd to install the OS. While you're inside the unit make sure all fans are spinning. I doubt that a screw caused all this, nor do I think it's static. Try the above.
