Purpose of Serial ATA card?

Q: Do I need to get a Serial ATA card when my motherboard already has SATA ports on it? Im asking because I bought a SATA drive to use as my main and only drive in a new computer and I cant get it recognized as the master drive. Thanks

A: No that should not be necessary, you just have to go into the BIOS setup and select the SATA as the boot disk. Some have to say SCSI first in the boot order since it thinks the SATA controller is a SCSI device (to discern from an ATA controller). Some can let you select each individual disk just make sure yours is plugged into the first SATA slot should be 0 or 1 depending on the board. cheers
