Risk of electrical fire? Using any adapter to power a laptop?

Q: I have this old Omnibook 2000 lying about and i dont mind too much damaging it a little, not even sure it still works. I found this 12 VDC 1000mA and the tip fits in my laptop. Is there any risk of fire for underwatting a device like a laptop? If so, is it the laptop itself that is gonna catch fire, the adapter, or the WALL??? Tx. Adzu

A: Almost. The voltage and polarity must be correct. The current specification for the power supply must be *at* *least* that required by the laptop. More is fine.
