Q: My windows xp recently went though a complete reinstallation, done by my cousin? When I turn my computer speakers on the light comes on, and I can hear a scratchy sound coming from them, but I can't hear anything else? I tried reinstalling drivers, but that doesn't work, and I really don't know quite what I'm doing. It says I don't have a multimedia audio device? How do I install or configure something for my sound to play? One time the computer says I don't have an active mixer or something like that. How do I know what to look for to install something so my speakers will play a sound? I looked inside my computer to see the motherboard and try to spot the sound card, but I am lost still. I need some easy instructions on how to get my speakers back, so I can hear sound again? Please help, this is so annoying?
A: To identify the device go to Control panel,Sounds and audio devices/hardware, this will tell you what audio devices are on your computer. Or type dxdiag in the run box, audio devices are on the sounds 1 tab. You may have deleted the drivers or the program controlling this device, for example a Realtek program.
