Q: My "E" drive, which is my CD ROM has stopped opening on it's own. I can open it manually and it plays, rips and burns just fine, and once the disc is in it, it will eject. It is the initial opening that I have to do manually. Can this be fixed without buying a new drive? I have looked for updates, but either am not looking in the right places or there isn't one. It is a Compaq Presario, initially 256 but have upgraded that and also put in a duel core processor. But that shouldn't have anything to do with the CD ROM not opening...right? Does anyone know how to fix this...please, and thank you in advance.
A: I don't know how to fix it, but here's your free workaround: always leave a non-bootable disc in the drive. You say it will always eject if there's a disc it it. So always leave a disc in it.
