Computer clock keeps resetting?

Q: What would cause my computer clock to keep setting itself back 3 hours? It's an IBM laptop that I've had for nearly 2 years. *The College strong-arms it's students to buy cheap computers, at twice the store-cost. The IT department is full of morons and thiefs who have no experience with computers or customers, and don't appear to have a highschool education. :. I think the IT department probably did something to my computer right before I bought it as is, so I cannot complain that they swapped out good parts with bad parts. GD techies.

A: most computers are setup to set the clock when online... that way you don't have to. There is 2 things that could be wrong here... 1. The computer has been set to the wrong time zone... so everytime you reset it by hand, the next time you go online it gets the "new" time according to a time zone 3 hours behind. 2. The CMOS battery is dying... there is a small, flat, round battery on the motherboard which powers the PC's internal circuits when the main power is off... If this battery fails, the clock also fails and needs resetting. Check you timezone settings first (double click the clock on the bottom left, click the "timezone" tab and select the appropriate one form the drop down list)... if still no joy, get a new CMOS battery... Good luck!
