Q: is it for making an external HD?
A: yes that is correct but before you go out and buy a harddrive to put in there there are a few small things you need to check firstly the form factor will it take 2.5" or 3.5" harddrives than you need to find out weather this is an ide or sata enclusre now if it is not on the box try the manuraturers website or you can look in side type in sata or ide in google to find out what they loook like it is to hard to explaine than check how many gigabites the enclusre will suport you dont want to buy a 320 Gb and find out that only 100Gb is supported and the rest is ignored once you have done these and purchased your harddrive you will find that the enclusre is held together by 2 lots of 4 screws undo one row and than you will probably need to unscrew the pcb ( the platic thing the harddrive will plug in to you will know what it is) and then plug that into your harddrive and srew it up finlay plug it in and than format the harddrive and your ready to go
