I would like to ask if my 500W generic PSU could handle my Q6600 proc, a gtx 8800 vidCard & add devices?

Q: My system is Q6600 proc, XFX 610i mobo, gtx8800, 2x160 HDD-sata, 1 DVDRW, 4 fans and some usb devices and peripherals. I'm not sure if a generic 500W psu could supply them enough or could result to some damaged parts. I'm not planning yet to buy a branded & a higher one since im looking forward for having a dual monitor. Thanks a lot for your answers and it all are a big help. I haven't look for the amps it can supply in its 12v trail. But as soon as I got home, I'll post all its specs. I also wonder if I could have 2 psu without any additional stuffs. Just a few jumpering and it will turns on as the other psu turns on. Besides its hard to find a device like that here in my country.

A: Well, people love to give advice, and people love overkill. 500 watts is actually more than enough wattage. Actually, I calculated 374 would do the trick even with the fans and assuming 4 memory slots are used and overclocked to 3ghz. The question is if the generic psu has enough amps on each rail to sufficiently run your set up. Since you did not provide that information, I cannot say. My suspicion is that it will be fine, unless its an old powersupply you have laying around that was really designed for a pentium 3 system or something. I am running a Q6600 overclocked to 3ghz, 1333FSB, and a 8800GS on the stock 350W Dell PSU without stability issues. Some might argue I run a greater risk of having my power supply fail, but 3 months not 1 issue yet. I will include the link for the tape mod to overclock the Q6600 in case your mobo doesn't support it or you don't know how to do it.
