HDTV to also use as a monitor?

Q: Just wondering what would be a good one to go with and what resolution I should get (like 720 vs 1080). The reason I want to do this as opposed to getting a normal computer monitor is that the only thing I really use my computer for is writing programs so I really don't care about getting the best picture possible. I just don't want to have to stare at a tiny screen for hours on end. Also, I could hook my PS3 up to the HDTV so it's like super double win. I'm mostly interested in what resolution I should go for. I have my laptop's set to 720 because the 1080 just makes pages (web and text) kinda hard to read and I don't feel like hitting "CTRL " a bunch of times every time I open something. Thank you for your input! Ok so I ended up just going to Circuit City and asking them about it. So I'll share what I learned for whoever else was wondering about this. 720 is fine for most purposes. Some pages still might be a little small to read, but just use the built in zoom features on your keyboard or browser to take care of that when needs be. The only time you really need the higher resolution is when the screen is bigger than 40 inches because that's when it starts to get more pixelated looking. If you are REALLY concerned with picture / color quality then you are better off going with one of the HDTV/monitors (they are labeled as that and are neither HDTV's nor monitors specifically) that are specifically designed for that type of usage. The guy that took care of me said he just uses an HDTV as his monitor and he's absolutely satisfied with its performance. If you intend to play video games on your computer through your HDTV, make sure the game resolution also matches that of the TV because they need not match up with that of your desktop to run. Thank you for all of your input. I still appreciate it, but I'm putting this up to a vote

A: Im currently usign a 19" Samsung Pebble (932mw) as a TV/second monitor/PS3 screen. Its in 1440*900 on 19" and 1600*1050 on the other two models, and all will be picked up as 1080p by PS3, so you get the best graphics too. i think its great, if you want summit bigger theres a 20 and 22" model too.( i got 19" so i didnt havbe two seprete monitor sizes) it has laods of input's - composite, scart, aerial, hdmi, component, VGA, DVI, however no built in freeview. and it looks realy nice, and matches PS3 really well. P.S if your lookign for a fullblown HDTV like 40" or whatever then yes it will not look so good as a PC monitor unless you are several feet away. however the biggest proper PC monitor is about 26", and its only that big for a reason.
