Q: I have a DELL E172FPb and when i plug it in i see the screen fine but then the "light" turns off, like you can still kind of see whats on the screen but theres no backlight to light up the images. What could this be and how do i fix it.
A: The CCFL inverter went out. Can be fixed, but not too cheap. Basically it is the power adapter that takes the 110AC coming in and converts it up to 600-800V for the bulbs (Similar to the ballast in fluorescent lights). I think some shops will fix it for 60-120, but a lot won't even touch it.
