Graphic Designers / Webmasters: How to choose the best resoultion with 2 different monitors?

Q: My boss asked me this question: You have two monitors: 22" and 17". The 22" is 16:9 aspect ratio and the 17" is a 4:3 aspect ratio. If you are using them side by side, what resolution should each monitor be so it doesn't seem stretched out and disorted. I've tried every single resolution pattern and still think one is still weird while the other is fine. Anyone have any idea? Of course, the bigger screen is for design / coding.. the smaller one is for consumer view.

A: If you use and extended desktop then you can set the two monitors to different resolutions. I would assume that both of the monitors are LCD flat screens, if so you should set both to their native resolutions. The 17" should be set to 1280 by 1024 (Which is actually a 5:4 aspect ratio, but who is counting) The 22" should be set to 1680 by 1050 (Which is a 16:10 aspect ratio) assuming it is a monitor rather than a HDTV, in which case check the user guide. Once you do that, make sure that you are using a program that displays the images in their original aspect ratio, and does not stretch them to fill the window or the screen.
