PC to LCD Screen connection via DVI-D wont work?

Q: I'm trying to connect my nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512 to my Acer LCD screen via DVI-D cable. The cable fits perfectly on both ends, and Windows also makes that 'plug-in sound' (like when you hook up a USB/iPod) so I think it is connected. But when I switch the screen's source from Analogue to Digital I just get a blank screen for about 2 seconds and then it switches back to Analogue. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Is there something I need to set up? (I'm running XP SP2) Hope someone can help! Ta

A: To do this properly, you must first power down your computer. Connect the DVI cable and disconnect the D-sub (analog) cable. Boot up your machine. Monitors are not usually hot-swappable, which means you will have to power down your machine to plug in a new one. Monitors usually automatically detect which source a signal is coming from, so you're most likely all set!
