Q: I have an acer aspire 5720 I dont take my laptop anywhere much so I was thinking if I can I just want to use my external monitor(I dont want to see my desktop on the laptop monitor, I want to be able to close the 'lid' and use my laptop as the system unit and my external monitor as the monitor). How can I change the settings so my computer will recognise the external monitor as Its main output and the computer wont use the laptop screen to display information anymore also when i close my laptop it goes to sleep so how can I fix that problem? Thanks for your help!!! Sorry if it doesnt make any sense to you...lol...
A: easy hook monitor to computer using the VGA (15 pin D shape blue in colour) or DVI (oblong 24 pin white in colour) on the laptop switch on monitor allow computer to recognise and configure the monitor then go to dispay settings and then choose external monitor (usually monitor 2) as the main screen and deselect option to extend desktop to either screen to stop laptop going to sleep when screen is closed go to power settings right click battery icon in bottom right hand corner and go to power options then on left hand side select what to do when i close the lid select option for battery and mains to do nothing you will also need an external keyboard to use with the screen when using computer you will need to open laptop to switch laptop on but when its booted up you can close lid and use it as the base unit with monitor and keyboard plugged in externally
