Q: and its really dim it like falls asleep..
A: Hi, I would be nice if you mentioned what type of monitor you have, an LCD or TUBE ?. If Tube then the symtoms point to a classic case of age related fatigue. What this means if that the monitor is really old and needs to the replaced, the components on the device is slowly coming to end of it life. However if the monitor is TUBE and relatively new (in terms of age) then the problem might be some capacitor in the monitor that is dying. As the monito gets hot the capicitor(transistor on the circuit board) of the monitor is leaking charge which can cause abnormal behaviour like dimming, display going blank or distortion in the display. Fix - If under warrenty take it back to shop and they can repair it. If not under warrenty then buy a new monitor, the cost of repair may out price the cost of new one. This time buy LCD, it is little more expensive but more reliable and will use less electricity, it should help lower you elec. bill. Check video cable connection to the computer for TUBE monitor too. IF LCD monitor. 1. Check the video cable of the monitor that connects to the pc. If you notice any of the pins bent or broken then that is your problem, it is normal to find empty slots. FIX - replace the cable if possible, then hope the device is under warrenty and the shop will do it. If not covered by warrenty evaluate cost of repair versus cost of new monitor. 2. Power setting but most unlikely- Check the power saving configuration. Sometimes the power consumption configuration may be set to dim the display after certain amount of time when not is use to converse energy. Although I have not seen any option to dim the display but only switch off the display, however new features are coming each day so it is worth a check. If the monitor returns to expected brightness when you move the mouse then check the power settings before anything else. 3. the video card is bad. Not sure you will be able to test this. Connect some other monitor you may have and if this one also dims then the video/graphics card is bad. Fix - replace. I hope this helps. Regards Ash Vote best answer if you like it.
