Q: For almost a year now there is an OSD main menu on our monitor and I don't know how to fix it. My parents thought it was because of downloading stuff too much but they don't know a thing about modern technology and I can only assume the menu button on our monitor is stuck from the inside. This is a very annoying command screen and I have figured out how to move it to the side using the command buttons but I can't move it with my mouse cause it just goes directly underneath the screen meaning the screen just pops on top of everything else no matter how hard I try. My computer is an hp pavilion f1703 I am running windows xp on a monitor and server my parents bought in 2003 plz help how do I get rid of this annoying menu!!! I am still a newbie when it comes to computers what do I do to get the monitor button "UNSTUCK"
A: Best advice is to try sticking a screw driver in and gently prying around to try and loosen any mechanisms inside. You should do this whilst the monitor is off of course, as CRT's have high voltage in them (Don't know if u have a CRT or TFT screen...). One way to do it would be to completely pop the button out. underneath that there should be a much smaller push switch. If the OSD is still there by this stage, you will have to remove this smaller button. A knife or flat screwdriver underneath it, then a twisting mothion should pop it right off. Be aware you may never be able to get back to the OSD if you do this, but the OSD will disappear becase the switch is now prmanatly open, rather than closed as it would be if it were jammed down. You may be able to get the OSD to reappear if you short out where the switch was with a small pieace of wire or paper clip if you require to change OSD settings in the future. Hope things work out for u!
