Monitor is blinking off?

Q: Just a few mins ago, my monitor blinked off. I turned off the monitor, and when it comes back on, the screen will come up for a second and then blink off again. What's going on? Everything is hooked up how it should be. Could it be just dust or something? Never had a problem with my monitor before. It's an LCD monitor..... would overheating cause this problem? I felt around and everything seemed ok, maybe a little warm. *shrugs* I've had a overheating problem w/ my computer before, but that usually caused the whole computer to turn off, not the monitor. And we installed another fan, and haven't had that problem since.

A: It's not an overheating problem really. This is a classic case of how LCD monitors go bad. If you can see a faint outline of the image on the screen (look at it from different angles and lighting), then your backlight has gone bad. If your screen is totally black, then some power circuit inside has probably gone bad. You can either get it fixed at a repair shop or purchase a new one. Up to you and how much you want to spend and if it's worth repairing. Shop around for estimates. Best of luck.
