How do I clean Sharpie marks on a LCD screen?

Q: My wonderful spawn while watching some disney on our pc decided to draw with a sharpie directly onto the screen... whats the best way to clean it?

A: OUCH! Here is the bad news... Sharpies are permanent markers. They achieve this by mixing an acetone based solvent with the ink. It literally etches the ink into the surface, especially soft plastic surfaces like...YOUR POOR LCD SCREEN! The good news is you still have a chance at being able to take out the mark IF it has been less than 6 hours since the mark was put on. Use a small, clean piece of microfiber cloth like the kind used to clean reading glasses with ($1 at Walmart or drug store), and then purchase a bottle of Whiteboard cleaner from an office supply store. Below is a link to a very good cleaner, but any office supply store generic version is chemically the same and will work equally well... http://whiteboard-cleaner.tripod.com/ GENTLY rub the mark with parallel strokes. A good trick is to wrap the cloth around a credit card so that you are only touching the mark and not the rest of the screen. If you do not see an improvement in 4-6 single swipes, then I'm sad to say that your mark is probably a permanent one. The good news is that when your kid grows up, you can hold this against him when they want to borrow the car, need money, or want to stay out late with someone you don't approve of.
