Q: I have a 19" wide flat panel monitor, got it brand new a year & a half ago. But all of a sudden, things are becoming more... pixelated, I guess the word is. Solid color things are becoming thin diagonal lines or dots, logos and pictures on sites lose detail, and my silver taskbar is becoming more of a pinkish color. A lot of things are becoming striped or spotted, no longer solid colored. I leave the computer on all the time, but the monitor cuts itself off after 15 minutes. I have been using it more frequently this summer, though. What should I do? Will it get worse?
A: first reboot and see what happens. you should at least power down the system at night. it gives the system a chance to cool down and windows will run a little quirky after a while with out a reboot. second reinstall your video drivers. third take the monitor off and connect it to another computer and see if it still happens. if so then take it back, if not then hook a different monitor up and see of the other one has the problems. if so then you have a GPU issue. fourth find out what temp the GPU is running, if its more than 60C to 70C then verify that the fan is spinning and/or look into an aftermarket cooler. last if all else fails you can try a system restore, but a restore is not a magic wand that will fix anything and everything.
