When installing Ubuntu 8.04 my screen goes black; displays out of resolution message?

Q: The screen displays a message saying "Video Resolution out of range. Please readjust to the recommended setting." (which happens to be 1280*1024) I have no way to adjust the resolution, even by pressing the "auto" button on my screen. I'm using the hp pavilion f1703 17" monitor. rob K, you misunderstood. I aready have installed the video drivers a long time ago. Under Windows Vista, I'm trying to install Ubuntu "inside windows" as a second partition. I have the EVGA 8800GT if this helps.

A: you need to install the video card drivers
