Q: i bought my dell 22" monitor from a computer shop.its suppose to be a display set but shop gave me a 6 months warranty with paperwork.straight after i got home, the monitor had problems with the buttons.went back and got another display set as a replacement. the second one was fine till after about a week, the same problem occured.i sent it back again and it has been with them till today.and this was 2 months ago!!! the problem is they have never updated me bout the monitor, they told me a smaller 19" would be sent to me as a temp monitor but it nvr came.everytime i pushed them for it,they would give me plenty of excuses. wat i would like to know,is there a way i can involve a 3rd party to settle this problem?cos i dun think that they take my problem seriously but this whole thing has caused me money.$270 SGD to be exact.if anyone can help, please let me know.
A: There are a number of things you can do. 1). Go to the shop and speak to the owner or the store manager. Do this in a calm, non-offensive manner. Tell the store manager or owner your entire experience and request an immediate replacement with another make or model, according to the written warranty that you have. If they do not do it, then.... 2). File a complaint with the local BBB (Better Business Bureau). 3). You can take them to small claims court and win a judgment. Make sure you get the approximate value of the monitor, or one like it, in other or similar brands. Since they refuse to honor the warrenty, they are committing fraud and their business is liable. 4). Seek help from your State Attorney General, file a complaint, so they can look into criminal activity. The shop may not be honoring anyone's claims...and I bet, since you had two monitors go bad, there is something defective with this model. 5). If you want, go get an attorney and have your attorney write a letter to the owner of the store putting them on notice that you intend to carry out legal means if they fail to live up to their warrenty. If you get a settlement in small claims court, that probably is going to be your only legal recourse, I would think and may void any further actions you could pursue legally. You will have to get the sheriff to take your court decision and have the business served in order to enforce the court action if the store does not appear in court to defend their side of the case.
