Q: I have looked at others answers but it just doesnt work for me. I need to make my secondary monitor(my tv) the main monitor but it wont let me. It wont let me uncheck the Make Primary monitor for the laptop, and it wont let me check it for the secondary monitor. This thing is confusing me and I just want to fix it and I will be done with it. but I have tried a lot of things and I need to know how to make my secondary monitor the primary one.
A: It really depends on what OS you're in, and what sort of graphics card you have. Windows XP is pretty touchy about this, and it doesn't seem like it wants to do something like what you're talking about by itself. Your graphics card software, however, should be able to help you out. Assuming it's properly detected, open up the graphics card software and navigate to the tab/section about displays. You should be able to select your external monitor and set it as the primary. This is all completely dependent upon your graphics card, however, and even assuming it all goes well you'll still have to do it every time you plug the laptop back in with the monitor. Windows is just no fun that way. Mac OS X literally just lets you drag the menu bar to the monitor you want it on, and that becomes your primary monitor. Beautifully simplistic.
