Q: okay so i was playing a game on my computer and i was fixing the video settings. i changed the video settings, clicked okay, then everything went black and the monitor started flashing black and white lines all over the place. not a problem... so i tried to exit out of the game and i did, but the monitor is still flashing at me and not working. i tried restarting the computer and reconnecting the cable, but it is still flashing at me. right now im using the SAME computer with an old crappy monitor i found in our basement. it obviously works, but when i try to plug in the other monitor, it still flashes at me. any suggestions?
A: This happened to me before and I needed to change the monitor. It happens when you change the screen refresh rate of the monitor measured in hertz. For games it maybe called Vsync or Vertical Synchronization. It tries to adjust the refresh rate of the game according to the refresh rate of the monitor handling the desktop. You may have a refresh rate of 75 hz but maybe it went high due to mishandling and hence the monitor started flashing. Well buy a new monitor decent to cost.
