Q: Hello, I want to buy an HP monitor if I hook it up to the DVI will it let my Sony display work also or will the sony display go dark? Also tell me all your thoughts. I want to put the monitor beside my sony laptop. I want the display on the sony to be active and I would like the HP Monitor that I am buying to display exactly what the sony display is showing
A: Should not be a problem. I would try to get a monitor that has the same resolution as your laptop. If they are different resolutions one of them will end up slightly fuzzy as it is forced to scale the image. You will be forced to the lower resolution of the two. Also if one is widescreen and the other not, then you will get distortions on one screen. The other caveat is that secondary monitors tend to default to an extended desktop. You will need to force the system into a mirror mode rather than an extended mode.
