Q: Hello there. i have an old lap top and have smashed the screen.when i power it up i can see top corner about 3 inch triangle and the computer has loaded up fine.when i connect monitor nothing happens though.it seems that on screen where i cant see maybe a message about the monitor.i want to give this to a friend just to get them started as they have a monitor.....what do you think?do you know how to sort this out
A: On the Keyboard there should be a blue FN (function) key. Hold this key and look for another key with a small blue symbol or writing on it. If it has a symbol, it will look like a small monitor, a slash, and a large monitor. If it's writing, it will say "CRT/LCD". While holding the blue function key (FN) press this other key. Pressing once should switch from the laptop's LCD to the external SVGA output. Twice should enable both the LCD and the External outputs. A third time will cycle back to just the LCD. When you hit the button, be patient... it may take a few seconds before you get anything on the monitor. FYI: It would have been helpful if you could have provided the manufacturer and model of your laptop. These directions are very general and will work on about 90% of laptops out there. Hope this helped.
