Q: i have a dell computer, with a flat screen.. last night i was just sitting on my computer and it just turned off. i tried pushing the button to turn it back on, and it was back on for a split second than it just shut down again. i checked all the wires so it is completely hooked up to the computer and plugged into the wall, so it's not that. so what the hell happened? does anyone know? and how can i get this fixed? do i have to call the geek squad or something? how much is this going to cost me? i have this screen http://www.gumtree.com/posting_images/33/23390733__1209594325__1__1-b2e9ad5ce9cd7c49ccac4e4203d27544.__big__.jpg the computer is still on, the screen is just dead. i'm on my sisters laptop right now.
A: First of all, one should never sit on their computer ;-) If the power button light goes out after you turn it on, then your monitor is most likely shot. Try disconnecting the video cable from the computer and try powering it on. If it still shuts off right away, then it is definitely your monitor has gone bad (I am constantly replacing these in my job). Not much you can really do about it. If your computer is still under warranty of some kind, then it should be covered, but judging by the picture, that is an older monitor. You can try to find someone to repair it, but it will probably be cheaper and faster in the long run to just buy a new one. If the monitor powers on OK without the cable attached, then your cable could be bad (try another one and see) or you could have a bad video card. Best of luck.
