Q: does the os you are on effect your monitor? mine is defective, it has a rainbow line on the left side. what does this mean? anyways should i just stay on xp pro sp2? like if i go to any other os will it change the monitor? Any other help from top contributers?
A: Unless you have a defective video card, which "usually" produces very different symptoms than what you described. No, changing your operating system will have no effect on the rainbow you are seeing. You will probably need a new monitor, but before you buy one make sure you go through all of your monitor settings and see that they are where they should be. Try degaussing it in the monitor control panel if it isn't a LCD.
