Q: It's definitely on, the green light is on, and I've turned the whole system off and started it again many times but nothings working!
A: When was the last time the monitor was working and what has changed since that time? Have you moved around the cables? or added/removed hardware? If you have make sure its in the right vga port at the back and the connection is correct.
