Will using a 22

Q: I am planning 2 buy a new LCD monitor. My graphics card supports high end settings of a game at a resolution upto1280x1024 which is the native resolution of 19" monitors. I want 2 know if i would sacrifice performance if i use a 22" monitor 2 play the game at 1280x1024 or is it better 2 use a 19" monitor. Also i would like 2 know if i can use my LCD monitor as a Television (TV) without setting up a media center PC.That is I would like 2 watch tv by just connecting a cable or a set top box .If so please mention some models that are capable of it. The best answer recieves TEN points Thanx

A: for your first question, the performance of the game itself won't be effected. Your monitor will adapt to the resolution signal sent to it. I have a 22" LCD monitor, with applications that can't take advantage of the screen size the monitor automatically adjusts. Whole screen is full, but the quality of the video doesn't improve - it's just bigger. The games runs on the CPU of the computer, the video is off loaded to the graphics card. For the TV part, you need a tuner. You would be better off buying a flat panel TV that can also be used as a computer monitor. Your looking for a DVI input on the TV (white rectangular). You also need DVI output on the computer (graphics card), most graphics cards for the last several years have them, the built in Intel graphics would just have VGA. TVs have the tuner built in, monitors do not. If you want to use a monitor you need to add a tuner adapter card to your PC. With a monitor you can watch DVD movies or streaming movies from sites like netflix - just not broadcast TV w/o the tuner.
