Q: So in like 2 months I'll be buying new PC(whole) and picking monitor. Few things first: PC is used mostly for gaming, then watching movies, shows etc, you get point what I need it for. I was thinking about 22"-24". Are they good enough for gaming? Or maybe too big? I don't want something thats too big and games/stuff can't support resolution. I'll have some nvidia 9 series graphic card. Also, I'd like to be able to play PS3 on monitor if possible. Please help, best answer get points :) Oh and if you need more details ask and I'll edit question with answer. I don't buy it too without first reading a lot online, but first I need some help deciding size, then model...
A: Now the deal with monitors is or was, that anything above 22 inch leaped dramatically in price. This is called the sweet spot. When a monitor like 17=$200 19=$250 22=$300-350 and then you may have a 24 inch monitor that is $500-$700. ie when i bought my 22 inch Benq Fp222W (somthing like that) it was the largest size before the price increased dramatically. Who would want to spend a couple extra hundred dollars for another 2 inchs. This might be a diffrent case now, but thats what it was like this time last year. And i believe that 22 inch monitors are the biggest size that you want if you have your monitor the same distance away from you on your desk as with a smaller screen (17 inch). Any thing larger you must have furthur away from you which basically negates the point in buying a larger monitor anyhow. So 22 inch monitors are the best for gaming. It dosent nesserily matter what video card you have as long as its quite recent (last 3 years) because most 22 inch monitors have the maximum resolution of 1680x1080. Make sure yours has a refresh rate of better than 5ms responce time though- very important otherwise your screen might be huge but it could be very sluggish looking when your playing games or videos. You cannot play a PS3 or other gaming console though a computer monitor directly. You need a lcd tv if you want to do that, this acts as a monitor for your computer and also for the PS3, but these are extremly more expensive than computer monitors. Your best bet would be to buy a tv tuner card that is HDMI compatible and plug you PS3 in so that it runs through your computer than through your monitor. But the issue is that companies have not made a lcd computer monitor capable of displaying full HD resolution, you will never get the same picture quality on a computer monitor that you can get with tv LCD. monitors have come down in price a lot recently about $100 cheaper you can buy my monitor for now 350. (450 to 350) But honestly of all the components of my computer, my favorite is my 22inch monitor, there is no point in having a high end computer if at the end of the day it is being seen through a stingy 17incher.
