Q: My computer at work has been having issues all year with the bottom third. I don't know what happen to it but the bottom part looks like bars of colors all different shades and widths. Is I touch it in a certain spot, the screen will go completely back to normal for just a minute or two. What could be wrong? I have rebooted it thinking that that might help, but it didn't. Help?
A: It's either the video card going bad or the monitor itself going out. Since pressing on the screen sometimes fixes the problem I'd have to say it's the monitor. If you can, borrow someone else's monitor or bring one from home and plug it in to your computer. If you're still having the same problem using a different monitor, it's the video card. Which means you just have to replace it. If you're not doing any kind of 3D rendering or animation work or anything like that then you can get a new one for less than $50. If using a different monitor fixes the problem, you'll have to buy a new one.
