Q: I have a friend trying to sell me his LCD flat panel 17" dell monitor. I don't really need a tv but he's selling it to me for $50 which is a steal. I was just wondering if I could play my PS3 games at higher def with the LCD monitor or not. Basically what I'm asking is, Would it be worth buying the monitor so that I can play my ps3 games or not?
A: PS3 would need VGA/PC output port on it. Last time I had check you only had HDMI or Mult-A/V connector port. So if you wanted to play games on the PS3 you would need HDTV LCD set and not a computer LCD. You could still use but you would need a video converter additional $60 to $100 more. Don't think the image will be great either tends to be fuzzy through the converter. If you just wanted to get a 17" LCD Monitor for your laptop or desktop then it's okay to get it for that purpose and not for your PS3. Also check the condition of the Panel for scratches, fades in color, stuck pixels (green, red, blue or white spots cause bad transistor) or dead pixels (burnt out transistors show-up as black spots which can't be fix only to replace the costly panel)
