Q: I have a E-Machine T5010, and I had just moved to another dorm for summer school. My original LCD monitor had a broken pin in the cable, so I replaced it with one of my friend's old 2001 CRT monitor--turned out that it didn't work either. So then I did the whole video card thing, but that didn't work. I can't really check BIOS either because my monitor doesn't even work. Anymore ideas!!?? Thanks! I really hope I don't have to buy a new PC.
A: Fault finding logic: Try monitor with known working PC. Works OK? Yes - Video card in own machine may be goosed. No - Monitor is faulty. Replace. If yes: Listen to the POST beeps. Does it it POST OK? HDD activity light flashing? Switch off and take out video card. Check for obvious damage to circuitry (using ESD wrist strap) and check fan for free movement. Reseat the card and push in any extra power connectors firmly. Power on... No joy? Take some power hungry components out. Use just yr boot drive/1 stick of memory with no optical drives. POST will fail but can you get the card to power on with a reduced load on PSU? No? Buy a new video card... Hope you get it working. :-)
