My Sims 2 for PC game keeps crashing, how do I fix it?

Q: I will be in the middle of playing when it just stops, crashes, and an error message pops up after taking about 5 minutes to shut the game down and make my computer slow. The message says something like this: ialmrnt5 display driver stopped working normally...the graphics adapter in the system experienced an internal error, contact the manufacturer for support. Then it tells me to reboot the system Once this happens, my desktop looks really funky, like the colors are all messed up and everything on the desktop has gotten really big. Do I need to get a new graphics card, and if so, which one should I get so that it works normally when playing the Sims 2?

A: try to reinstall the game first. then if it still crashes, get a video card. if your motherboard supports a pci-express slot, then get a nvidia 8500gt or 8600gt. if AGP slot, then try to get the highest agp card you can find. but its much better if you have pcie. the cards are faster by twice than agp and agp's are already old..
