Q: The computer is on about 18hrs a day and the monitor is on standby half that time. Last time, I saw smoke coming out of it and the screen was compressed to 1/2. What was the problem? Yup. But the question is why? Thanks for the concern though. Thanks. I already replaced it.
A: YES,THE MONITOR IS COOKED.EVEN THOUGH THE MONITOR IS ON STAND BY,THE CATHODE IS STILL HOT AND RUNNING AND STAYING HOT.THE SCREEN HAS SHRUNK BECAUSE THE TUBE IS ABOUT READY TO BLOW OUT.LUCKILY THE SMOKING IS ONLY A WARNING ABOUT THINGS TO COME.YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE MONITOR ASAP BEFORE IT STARTS A FIRE.DO NOT USE IT ANYMORE.YOU NEED TO UNPLUG IT AND BUY A REPLACEMENT.SORRY.
