Q: hey guys... my family computer has some odd problem with the monitor. Whevever its connected to my laptop, and the family desktop, all it does is try to turn on, flash white, then die. and it does this repeatedly as long as it is plugged into the computer. If i try powering it on while its not connected, it doesnt even power on. ive looked into it, and the best i could find was that the computer was displaying a flash code and its probably a hardware problem. i dont feel like buying a new one. any ideas?
A: If it is an LCD rather than a CRT.. then they are really not worth fixing to be honest.. I repair laptops and LCD's but this is on the basis that I have spare parts from other similar monitors to go into it. i would say it's a defective opto-isolator on the inverter board or the video signal processing circuit... LCD monitors are a computer. You can break them into several parts, Power, I/O, and processing. Power is the easiest to trouble-shoot and repair. Processing is the hardest. Unless you know what you are doing... i would say with how cheap a basic LCD is ... go and buy another one.. or ebay a second hand unit. Sean
