Q: what are the advantages and diavenages of having a dual monitor?
A: [-] Two monitors on 1 adapter (video card) effectively halve the performance ceiling of each display. Not really a big deal with newer adapters, but there is a hit. You can overcome this by using a second display adapter. [-] Some programs and games don't play well with 2 displays. There are usually workarounds for such problems, but you need to do a little research on the ones you intend to use to determine if there's a problem. [-] Learning curve. Setting up dual monitors can be slightly more challenging that just plugging them in. Often you need to set a primary, and configure how you want the secondary to behave (mirrored, extended, etc) Also adjusting to swinging a mouse cursor or windows between monitors can take some getting use to. [+] Wider "Desktop", allowing you to multi-task a lot easier. you can have a webpage or two open on one screen as you're typing a report on another. Reference on one side productivity on the other.. etc. [+] Control and display.. you can conduct a powerpoint presentation on your standard monitor, and output a "clean presentation" (without controls) to another montior, or a large tv, or a projector. [+] Cool factor.. yea, it's cool to see a multi-monitor station, like you might find in a NASA laboratory or a sci-fi flick.
