does anyone know where I can get a backlight?

Q: I just purchased a LCD monitor on e-bay. But now I find out that it needs both a backlight and a powercord. Where can I find a backlight for a PK656AA? I looked at Wal-Mart, TigerDirect, and even HP stores. DO they exsist anymore or did I just get ripped off?

A: I'm afraid that it sounds like you got ripped off. If it was sold as working then complain to e-bay, try to get your money back. The problem is that the backlights are usually integrated into the actual panel of the monitor. So if you need to replace the backlight you end up replacing the entire panel assembly. Since the actual cost of a monitor is typically the panel cost +$20 to $30, it is actually cheaper to get a new monitor than pay to pull one apart, replace the panel and put it back together. Notebooks will have the panel repaired if it is defective, but then the cost of the panel is less than the cost of the rest of the computer, so it is worth while.
