Q: My sound isn't working on my HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop, but I think I know what's wrong with it. When I go into Device Manager, I don't see the audio driver that I need. However, when I try to install it from the HP website, the installation fails and an error pops up that says "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver." I don't know what to do. Help? Thanks. I am running Windows XP and I went to the HP website and tried installing Conexant AC-Link Audio Driver. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-46818-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=1841880
A: It may be that the sound chip has gone bad. The other possibility is you are trying to install the wrong driver. What Operating System do you have? -- Will watch for additional details and will update then. **Update*** So you downloaded the executable and then you double clicked it to run it, went through the licensing agreement and then the error came up? If the system is under warranty you will want to contact HP-- (unless you upgraded the sound card when you purchased the laptop) it looks like the sound card chip has died.
