Q: Hi, I decided to add some more RAM to my Inspiron 1000, it has become pretty slow after the various programs I have added in the last 3 years. It has only 256 MB of RAM. However, when I went to the local vendor, he tried a RAM unit which fit the slot right, but on switching on the laptop, it started to show some serious error (bad enough to not let it boot). Then the vendor told me that most likely this was because the BUS speed did not match with the motherboard (which had the inbuilt RAM of its own) - I could only somewhat understand this - question is how do I get the RAM which matches? What specs on the RAM tell this? Want to see if I can get some help online before trying out the next vendor.
A: Go to the following link, http://www.crucial.com they can do an on line check which will determine which ram your motherboard supports. They will recommend the optimum amount. You can order on line and although they are not the cheapest it is worth paying for good ram. They guarantee compatibility with your motherboard and give an excellent warranty. They also give fitting instructions. I have used them many times and always been satisfied. Hope this helps.
