A: All brands are about the same unless they have a premium line of better-built laptops for customers that actually want something good and are willing to pay a bit extra. Acer, HP, Sony, Apple, Dell, Toshiba etc all have the similar typical low-end junk and compete with each other by changing appearance etc. Apple does a good job of spending money on TV advertising to sell their low-end junk at premium prices which is a nice profit making accomplishment for them. Some manufacturers have well built laptops exclusively, for example Alienware. Dell has the XPS line of laptops which are also well built So other than laptops like Alienware and Dell XPS, just don't bother to worry about the brand. Instead pay attention to the components inside (except you can't do much about getting a decent amount of copper plumbing and cooling inside which is very hard to find since that makes the laptop heavier and more expensive and the consumer can't actually see it and is the sort of hidden extra that you get with Dell XPS and ALienware for example) You want: 1. any dual core CPU 2. 4 gig RAM 3. a dedicated graphics chip such as ATI 3650 or NVidia 8600 4. a 7200 rpm hard drive Now we can look at your list and see if anyone comes close to that simple list of 4 items (It's not actually easy because all manufacturers make more money if you don't buy dedicated graphics or 7200 rpm hard drive) Looking at your numbers: 1) only 2 gig RAM, old and slow 5400 rpm drive, integrated chipset graphics in ATI 1250 - no 2) donate this one to a museum - single core CPU, 512 meg RAM, Intel 950 integrated graphics and 5400 or even 4200 rpm drive 3) old and slow 5400 rpm drive, integrated chipset graphics in ATI 1250 - no 4) same POS as number 2) except RAM has been upgraded - no 5) only 1 gig ram, prob 5400 rpm hard drive, NVidia 7300 is a tiny improvement - no 6) only 512 meg RAM! prob 5400 rpm drive, Intel 3100 integrated graphics - no 7) single core CPU, old 5400 rpm hard drive, the graphics is not specified but it's obviously not going to be good #5 looks like the best of the lot - upgrade it to 4 gig of RAM but it stall fails the basic criteria for a decent laptop - but if this is all you can choose from then that's the one From that site you are using here are some laptops worth looking at: 8) http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/view+classifieds/id/670396/DELL+Laptop+for+Gaming+DELL+Studio+15+with+Back-lit+keyboard it only has a 5400 rpm drive but the rest of it is decent with the ATI 3450 being a real dedicated graphics chip with 256 meg of RAM on it 9) http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/view+classifieds/id/682804/FS%3A+BRANDNEW+DELL+XPS+M1530 A Dell XPS model is excellent - could use more RAM and the speed of the hard drive is not given but it might be a 7200 rpm. The NVidia 8400 graphics with 128 meg of RAM is fine. I have no clue what those price numbers mean so no idea if these models are in your budget range...
