Q: I sometime have my laptop on from 8am to 11pm is it bad? And sometimes i put it to sleep 3 or 4 times a day, is that bad? Does that also go for desktop computer My laptop is an "ACER EXTENSA 5220 VISTA" THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE AND IF I KEEP TURNING IT OF AND ON 5 TIMES A DAY WILL IT MATTER????? oops ignore the caps lock lol
A: Computers should stay on or off, rebooting is ok but don't start up or shutdown a lot. The heat up and cool down will have to most effect over time on the equipment and parts. Don't ever hit, bump or move the system while on. Never move the system with a dvd or cd in the drive. Laptops work well with sleep over hibernation. I have a drop sensor in mine because any drop can damage your hard drive and data. Most drives go anywhere from 4200 rpms to more then 15000 rpms. Also keep in mind Vista's default power management holds your CPU at 50% to save power if you leave it plugged in a lot or want full speed I'd check this and change that to 100%. Sleep doesn't turn the computer completely off keeping it warm and not allowing the same effect as off however be warned about hot cars and laptop bags get really hot.
