Q: We bought a laptop for our son to use at college. I would like to protect it a bit more so we have a decent chance to recover it if it's stolen. Has anyone used Lojack or Gadgettrak before? Was your laptop stolen? Did you get it back? How long did it take? Any think you can tell me about these would be appreciated!
A: Both are software trackers. Both require the computer to be hooked to the Internet to allow it to be tracker. Pros: Most people who steal computers will take them home and go online or sell them and the new user will go online. Cons If the computer is not hooked to the Internet it can't be tracked. If the hard drive is removed or reformatted, the software is useless. If you password protect your computer and someone can't bypass it, they won't be able to get online.
