Q: I am buying a laptop this week and IT IS URGENT! I need to know which brand/manufactuers produce the best quaity
A: As with anything, it depends exactly what you need to will need your system for. When it comes to budget use, professional use, and gaming, there are drastically different criteria for judging quality. Just about every laptop brand will differentiate between powerhouse and econo-line laptops. Comparing the budget Sony Vaios with a high-end Dell XPS gaming station is HARDLY fair. If you can specify what it will be used for, what your criteria are concerning "quality", and what price-range you're interested in, we could give more informed opinions. It is true, the quality of macintosh notebooks in general is VERY high, but they do not enjoy universal use. They typically are not setup to run windows, so you would need to learn how to use another operating system. Not all applications, software/drivers, and hardware are designed to operate with Mac's. Unless I was a big fan of graphics design or CAD I would stay away from them for everyday use. High-end Sony Vaios have a reputation for being the BMW's of the laptop world, but in my experience their customer service and support for products is nothing short of grotesque. I don't plan on purchasing another. Their budget-line notebooks have cheap materials and are near impossible to customize--not to mention online driver support is poor. For what it's worth, I've had good experiences with Dell and HP laptops--and their customer service has been superb. If you're considering high-end gaming units, that would require another discussion.
