Q: I used windows xp, while i was woking my laptop suddenly shut down, i tried to turn it on but nothing came up except dell logo? i had many files in drive C: , so i wanted to change xp to vista in order to keep my files in that folder named windows.old. I put vista dvd but nothing came up, i turned to install xp again it said no hard drive found?? what could be the problem ?? tell me how can i keep my file?? i need my files they are too important. please help??
A: I believe your hard drive has a lost or corrupted MBR Master Boot Record you need to reinstall MBR Download " Hirens Boot CD " or get someone to do it for you, burn to CD and boot from it in your computer scroll through menu when loaded go to Disk repair section and repair MBR when finished Boot from windows disk and choose the R for repair mode not install it will repair windows and you should not lose any files
