which brand is better, HP or sony? ?

Q: I've been doing research on laptops because I need a new one pretty badly. I currently have a Dell inspiron and it's my third one. I'm never going back to Dell that's for damn sure... anyways... I've narrowed down my options to the HP Pavillion dv6875 (special edition) it has a lot of specs that sound promising but I've never owned an HP. My other option is the sony vaio cr510. the Hp is about $50 more than the vaio. The big difference is battery size (hp has a 12 cell, vaio has 6) I would like a big battery since I want to take it to class but that also means extra weight. the vaio is a 14" which I really want. I have a 15" now and i hate how big it is but if the HP is as awesome as it sounds, i think i could deal with it. haha. now i have a friend with a vaio that's almost 3 years old and runs like new. And I have to say, I'm a big fan of their keyboards. VERY easy to clean. But in truth, I don't know much about either brand cuz I've never owned either. so I need some help, which brand makes better computers overall? ok the sony is $849 and the hp is $889. they both have 3gb of memory and the hp has a 350 processor while the sony has a 250. That's all I can think of right now... ok, maybe this is what I should really be asking... which will last longer in the long haul? I'm new to both brands and dont really know much about either other than what friends have told me. All three dells I had didn't last more than a year or so and so I spent ridiculous amounts of money after people said, "It would cost almost as much to fix as it would to buy new" and I don't want to go down that road again. Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated :) The Vaio: http://www.officemax.com/omax/catalog/sku.jsp?skuId=21673805 the HP: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8776176&type=product&id=1204332255372#tabbed-customerreviews Thanks for the help guys. I think I'm leaning towards the Vaio.

A: *sigh* i love my dell inspiron 1520 gaming rig but if you dont want a dell fine... but brand names dont tell us anything dude. You need to post the computers specification. Whats the processor, ram, video card, ect? (and price) (so add details and ill tell you which is better) & 15.4" isn't big dude, that's the standard screen size. 17" is big. and then there's HP's 20" laptop....now that's big. ----- EDIT: "the hp has a 350 processor while the sony has a 250. That's all I can think of right now..." Dude, that means absolutely nothing to me. Post a link to the two laptops, or give me the model number of the processor (it should say it, something like: T7500, T8300, or Athlon 4200+) or at least the speed and type of processor (core 2 duo, pentium D, 1.8GHz, 2.4GHz, ect ect) In order to judge the value and abilities of a computer the specifications need to be known. Computers arn't shipped out all the same these days, they have completely different insides.
