Q: I got an offer to trade my iBook G3 800MHz for a PowerBook G4 400MHz. I realize that my iBook has a 800MHz processor while the PowerBook has a 400MHz processor, but since the PowerBook is a G4, would it be faster? Should I stay with my iBook or trade for the PowerBook?
A: A G4 is a hell of a lot faster in applications that are optimized to take advantage of the Altivec G4. But that G3 is twice as fast as the G4...man! Between those 2, well...damn that's tough! I'd probably stick with the G3. You'd probably never see any advantage with the Altivec.
