A: Those are your only selections? In Order Sony (lots of crapware loaded for you), Acer (look really nice), Dell (comes in pretty pastel colors). All I can say is invest in an extended warranty if you purchase any of the above, as you will make use of it. The two laptops that are rated the highest in terms of quality and reliability are Lenovo and Apple. Lenovo has a model with a 17" widescreen, discrete graphics, Dual core proc, Dolby Surround certified (4 speakers and a sub integrated), 250GB HDD (will take a 2nd 250GB HDD), 3GB memory, DVD dual layer burner for $849. BTW - if you should ever need to call tech support, Dell's is in India, HP's is in Costa Rica, Sony I think is also in India while Lenovo is located in Atlanta.
