Q: So.....basically I have a Gateway M285 tablet pc, and my friend shut it down the wrong way (holding down the power button) about a week ago, and ever since, when I turn on my computer, it acts like it will boot up fine, but then the blue screen comes up for around 3 seconds, and then goes back to rebooting. I can not get passed the blue screen and I've tried using a Windows disk to Restore it, but it tells me that there is no recognized hard drives available. I'm pretty sure what that means is I'll have to replace the hard drive. Is this right? Does anyone have any easier (and cheaper) ways to fix this? Thanks.
A: when the blue screen comes up hit the pause/break key to pause the screen,it has some useful info on it,at the top you will see a series of error codes like 0x000 and some additional numbers and a little farther down a description of the problem. The boot sector of the drive may have got corrupted or the MBR(master boot record got corrupted.also go into your bios and see if the section where it detects the drive is set to auto.when you write down the info from the blue screen email it to me and i will be able to help you out further.its may be easily fixed once you get those error codes.i dont think the drive is bad,the files system some how has got corrupted.
